The Botanical Garden at Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park

In the lush heart of Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park, we’ve created a very special garden—a space where tropical biodiversity, ancestral knowledge, and conscious tourism come together. This botanical corner is home to plants that not only beautify the landscape but also tell ancient stories through their scents.

Nestled in the lush heart of Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park, our botanical garden is a living sanctuary where tropical plants, cultural heritage, and eco-conscious tourism come together. This special corner of the park is home to species that not only enrich the landscape but also tell ancient stories through their aromas and uses. Join us on a guided walk through this unique garden and discover the fascinating plants we cultivate:

Coffee (Coffea arabica)
A proud symbol of Costa Rica. We grow Arabica coffee, known for its smooth, fruity flavor. Beyond its global economic importance, coffee holds cultural significance and offers powerful antioxidant benefits. In our garden, you can witness the journey from plant to bean ready for roasting.

🌿 Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia)
A climbing orchid native to Mesoamerica. Cultivating vanilla is a true art—it requires manual pollination and patience. Highly valued in gourmet cuisine, vanilla also has relaxing and aphrodisiac properties. Its scent in the garden is unforgettable.

🌶️ Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
The “queen of spices.” This tropical vine produces peppercorns harvested at different stages to yield black, white, or green pepper. Besides culinary use, pepper is known for aiding digestion and stimulating the senses.

🌳 Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)
Delicate and fragrant, cinnamon is extracted from the inner bark of this tree. While widely used in baking, it also offers antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and digestive benefits. Touching its bark or leaves in the garden releases a warm, spicy aroma.

🍃 Coca Plant (Erythroxylum coca)
A sacred plant in many Andean cultures. In its natural form, coca leaves are used to combat altitude sickness, aid digestion, and boost energy. Its presence in our garden opens space for meaningful conversations about its cultural heritage, far removed from modern stigmas.

🍫 Cacao Tree (Theobroma cacao)
The sacred tree of the Mayas and Aztecs, and the source of chocolate. Here you can see cacao pods growing directly from the trunk—a fascinating feature of this species. Pure cacao is energizing, rich in antioxidants, and considered a “soul food.” Crack open a ripe pod and discover its unmistakable aroma.

🌱 Insulin Plant (Dianthera secunda)
Nicknamed the “insulin plant” for its ability to help regulate blood sugar levels. It is widely used in natural medicine to support people with type 2 diabetes. It grows quickly and thrives in tropical climates.

🍋 Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)
An aromatic herb commonly used in herbal teas for its citrus flavor and calming effects. Lemongrass tea helps relieve stress, supports digestion, and promotes restful sleep. Just brushing the leaves releases a refreshing scent.

🌿 Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi)
A sacred Amazonian vine of deep spiritual significance. Traditionally used by indigenous communities for healing rituals and consciousness expansion, this plant represents a legacy of respect, wisdom, and connection with nature. In the garden, it symbolizes the power of ancestral knowledge.

🍓 Miracle Fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum)
A small berry native to West Africa, famous for its astonishing effect on the taste buds: after eating it, sour foods like lemon or vinegar taste sweet. It has potential uses for people with diabetes or those undergoing medical treatments that affect appetite. In our garden, it offers a truly unique sensory experience.
